Ramsey County was established in 1849 and is home to Minnesota’s state capital, the city of St. Paul. More than 487,000 people live in the 156 square miles that make up the county. There are many popular attractions in Ramsey County, both man-made and natural, including Como Park Zoo and the Conservatory, Indian Mounds Park, Harriet Island and Lilydale Parks, and the Alexander Ramsey House. The suburbs of Ramsey County are blessed with beautiful, historic neighborhoods built around lakes and parks for summer and winter recreation. The Saint Paul/East Metro area has been described as a “big small town.” Neighborhoods featuring rows of Victorian houses and preserved, distinctive architecture, suggest an Old World charm, while contemporary housing styles are available throughout the suburban communities. Saint Paul was recently named one of the 30 Most Livable Communities in the U.S.
